Live chat with Jimmy | Awarded US Faith and Freedom Award; Jimmy Lai goes live with Robert Sirico
Next Digital founder Jimmy Lai has been named to receive the Faith and Freedom Award by the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty. He will go live on Twitter at 9 a.m. this Thursday (Oct. 29) with Rev. Robert A. Sirico, president and co-founder of the Action Institute. After an initial discussion, Lai will take questions and interact face-to-face with netizens virtually. In last week’s live chat, Lai and guest host Mark Clifford, former editor-in-chief of South China Morning Post, discussed the upcoming U.S. presidential election with Jillian Melchior, editorial page writer at the Wall Street Journal. Jimmy Lai voiced his support for President Donald Trump, his wishes for his re-election, and the continuation of his tough stance against the Chinese Communist Party. For Melchior, Trump’s opponent, Joe Biden, might be more cuddly towards China. She expressed her concerns regarding the election as well as human rights issues in China. Lai will continue to go live this Thursday at 9 a.m. (9 p.m. on Wednesday EST) on Twitter, with Clifford continuing on as the guest host, and joined by Sirico. Rev. Robert Sirico is committed to human rights work. He has lectured in various colleges, universities and commercial organizations across the U.S. and other countries, and has published in newspapers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes articles on religious, political, economic and social issues. The Acton Institute, co-founded by Pastor Sirico, aims to promote freedom, virtues, and moral values. The Faith and Freedom Award was established in 2000 to recognize people with outstanding commitments to civic, business or religious fields. Past awardees include former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
